High Heel Survival Guide
Provided by Dunn Wellness Center

Ask any woman and you’ll hear that high heels– from work shoes to sandals to “dress-up” flip flops–can be an essential part of your wardrobe…but they sure can make your feet (and therefore the rest of your body) feel miserable. Lucky for all you beach divas who just love your Manolos, the Dunn Wellness Center offers four easy tips to help you enjoy wearing heels and sandals all summer:

Be Selective– Save wearing high heels only for special occasions. Try limit wearing them to no more than eight hours, and don’t ever wear heels so high you that have trouble walking! For everyday wear, heel height shouldn’t be more than one inch.

Fit– It seems basic, but make sure you buy the right size shoe—many women (and men) wear shoes that are too small. Sizes vary according to the brand and style. Be sure there is up to ½ inch of space in the shoe beyond the longest toe and that the shoes are not too narrow.

Pamper Your Feet– Give your feet extra special attention during and after wearing high heels. Give your feet a moisturizing massage when you get home to help your foot muscles relax and put back some of the moisture you lose wearing backless or open-toe heels.

Remember the ConnectionWhy is Dunn Wellness Center providing foot information? Your spine is one link in a “chain,” with your feet as the base. Lack of stability in the foundation can lead to distortions and a muscular stretching all the way up the spine. This can lead to pain and/or stiffness over time.

Dunn Wellness Center now offers new technology and strategies to help stabilize your body by getting your feet back into correct position. Throughout his career, Dr. Joe Dunn has incorporated cutting-edge training so patients experience improved quality of life.
