It is vital to encourage children to develop the right behaviors when involved in sports. Nutrition, stretching and rest are cornerstones to healthy sports participation. Encourage your child to:

• Always wear protective equipment
• Stretch before activity begins
• Maintain a healthy weight
• Eat well-balanced meals
• Drink plenty of water
• Get plenty of sleep
• Eat the proper amount of protein every day
• Drink sports drinks rather than caffeinated or carbonated drinks
• Take vitamins daily
• Avoid performance-based supplements
