Pack an A+ Lunch

Combining school with a healthy lunch can be quite difficult. From elementary school children to college students, everyone needs to pay attention to proper nutrition.

Try the following when packing a lunch for a child:

• Bake muffins that include carrots, zucchini or bananas. Keep them
in the freezer and pull out when needed for a lunch. They will thaw
  by lunchtime.

• Keep raw fruits and vegetables on hand
and let your children pack their own salad
for their lunchbox. Use hummus or a
creamy yogurt as a dip or dressing.

• Roll turkey slices with low-fat cream
cheese and hold it together with a pretzel
stick or wrap the turkey around a pickle
  or cucumber.

• Make finger sandwiches using pita bread.
Stuff with peanut butter, tuna salad or
  chicken salad.

• Make veggie pizzas with pita bread or English muffin as the crust.

• Make a fruit smoothie and pack in a thermos.

• Angel food cake is great cubed and topped with cubed fruit.

• Watch portion size…these are kids.
