Neuromuscular Therapy
Neuromuscular therapy is a form of massage therapy specifically effective
for back pain arising from soft tissue injury, such as muscle strain. The
American Academy of Pain Management recommends this form of massage therapy
to promote the healing response in non-inflamed soft tissues.
Soft tissue damage in one area of the body may cause symptoms in other areas,
which may also be relieved with massage. To address muscles in spasm, neuromuscular
therapy alternates a concentrated pressure on the affected areas. Pain is
relieved through relaxation of muscles in spasm as well as stimulation of
the nervous system through the muscles.
