Take a Load Off! Backpack Tips
A child should carry less than 10% of their body weight.
Know the type of backpack to use:
Proportional to body size
Shoulder straps should be adjustable,
padded and at least two inches wide
The back of the pack should be padded
A waist belt or hip strap helps to distribute
the weight of the pack
Multiple compartments allow you to even
out the weight
Consider a backpack on wheels
Know how to wear it right:
Use both shoulder straps
Use your legs in lifting the pack from the floor
Place the pack on a table and put on one strap at a time
Heaviest items should be carried closest to your body
Adjust the straps for a proper fit
Use the waist belt to take the strain off of your shoulders.
